Verify both the legal practitioner and firm

A professional title, academic qualification or advertisement is not itself permission to provide legal services. In Dubai, verify both the individual and firm through the official authority, and agree the service and responsibilities clearly.

  1. Search the Dubai Legal Affairs Department's directory for the individual and firm. Ask the Department to clarify uncertain or inconsistent information; an entry is neither an endorsement of specialisation nor a guarantee of results.

  2. Registration as a Legal Consultant is different from permission to plead and represent clients before Dubai Courts. If court representation is required, identify the practitioner authorised to appear before the particular court concerned.

  3. Before paying, record the service, responsible practitioner, professional fees, separate expenses and communication arrangements in writing. Obtain the agreement and an official receipt, and do not rely on promised outcomes or claimed influence with authorities.

A practical next step

Match the individual and firm against the official directory, and clarify the engagement and representation responsibilities before making a payment.
