Hiring domestic workers through social media: verify before paying

An Instagram or TikTok page, professional presentation and bank account do not replace licence checks. Before paying for domestic-worker recruitment, establish the authorised office’s identity, the service agreement and the payment arrangements.

  1. Check the office and its domestic-worker recruitment authorisation in MoHRE’s official directory. Obtain contact details independently from that channel and confirm that the advertising account actually represents the office. A verification badge, licence photograph or personal recommendation is not sufficient by itself.

  2. Before a deposit, request a contract and invoice identifying the provider, service, price and refund terms. Match the payee against the office documents and independently investigate requests to pay another person or company. A bank account or identity-card copy is not a guarantee that a transaction is trustworthy.

  3. Use your bank’s official application or website to pay. Do not give a recruiter your one-time password, card PIN or banking login, or access your account through their message link. Requests for such information to verify a file or reserve a worker should prompt a pause and independent checks.

  4. If you have made a suspicious payment, promptly contact the bank through its official channel to explore damage-limitation options. Retain messages, the advertising account’s address, agreement and receipts. Report recruitment-office concerns to MoHRE and suspected crime through police channels; recovery of money cannot be guaranteed.

A practical next step

Find the office in the official directory, verify the offer using its independently obtained number, and match the contract, invoice and payee details before transferring money.
